Volunteer & Committee Opportunities
Ready to get involved? Want to make a difference in the lives of animals and the community? Then join BirchBark Foundation!
Established in 2012, BirchBark Foundation is the first of its kind in the Monterey Bay area that encompasses Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties. Our goal is to keep pets with their families—it's the least we can do for the unconditional love and companionship they give so freely.
Read about (and sign up for!) some of our general volunteer opportunities below! Or, if you'd like to volunteer at our Fall in Love gala in 2023, visit this page.
AGENT OF EVENTS
As an Agent of Events, you will be the face of BirchBark Foundation, tabling events in our community. We will have opportunities throughout Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.
Your job will be to engage with members of the public about BirchBark and share with people how they can join our efforts and support families (and their pets) in our community - whether as a volunteer, financial supporter, or by spreading the word of what we do further out into the community.
To be an effective agent, you should have knowledge of BirchBark Foundation, including its history and available programs. You should be able to communicate clearly, professionally, and in a positive, cheerful manner with those you meet. Before sending you out to an event, we will be sure to coach you on all things BirchBark so that you feel prepared to represent the organization.
These events are not regularly scheduled, but we will send out a notice in advance so that you can sign up according to your availability.
EMISSARY FOR SENIORS
As an Emissary for Seniors, you will be meeting with seniors in our community who have a current emergency or urgent care issue with their pet. Your job will be to meet with this pet's family member to help them complete their BirchBark PetAid application, which is done online.
To be an effective Emissary for Seniors, you should have a proficiency with technology and computers, own a cell phone or laptop, and have the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and in a compassionate and patient manner with those you meet. You should also posesss incredible discretion as you will be dealing with sensitive, personal financial documents that you will be helping families submit in their application.
We will have opportunities for Emissaries for Seniors throughout Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties.
These appointments are not regularly scheduled, we will reach out to our Emissaries for Seniors on an as-needed basis. We will send out contact information to our Emissaries for Seniors so that they can schedule the appointment with the family directly at a time that works best for both parties.
MAIL NINJAS
As a Mail Ninja, you will be helping our BirchBark staff with occasional mailing projects. To be an effective Mail Ninja, you should have focus, forbearance, tolerance, and endurance.
We will have opportunities for Mail Ninjas in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. These mail projects are not regularly scheduled, we will reach out to our Mail Ninjas on an as-needed basis. We will provide the paperwork, stamps and envelopes to our Mail Ninjas so that they have everything they need to complete the assignment.
