Tamara I. Schmitz earned her bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Stanford University, and liked it so much that she stayed for a master's in electrical engineering and a PhD in radio frequency circuit design and has never left California. She brings strong organizational and marketing skills to the BirchBark Board. She spent time as a lecturer at Stanford before landing an Assistant Professor position at San Jose State University. While at SJSU, she coordinated with 5 local companies to create the Test Engineering Program to give students practical training in marketing, applications, product and test engineering. Every student in the program left the university with a job offer.
After 5 years, Tamara joined Intersil Corporation. While there she led a monumental training effort—teaching 55 different product lines to hundreds of new sales and Field Application Engineers. She created a monthly online effort, new hire program, yearly sales conference and bi-yearly specialized worldwide training. After the training program was established, she joined the sensor product line as the applications manager. When an opportunity came along for new professional growth and to lead changes in Power and Memory, she saw the challenge and took it and joined Xilinx, Inc as Director of Technical Marketing for Power & Memory. The passion that drives her to solutions in the semiconductor industry is fueled by connections she has in the community and at home with her 4 dogs, 7 chickens, 6 goats and 2 snakes in Scotts Valley, CA.
